Tim Burton's Worst Film is Still a Masterpiece
Переглядів 40314 днів тому
When Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes hit cinemas in 2001, it made a lot of money but it failed to set the public imagination alight. Certainly in the same way the 1968 original had. Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes film is vibes central. Burton fought back against a hellish production schedule and made something truly special. Perhaps it would have done better if it had emancipated itself from t...
The Phantom Menace PC Game is Pure Vibes👌

Of all the Star Wars Episode One PC tie-in games, the movie adaptation feels like it would be the most boring one. But oh no. The Phantom Menace PC game from 1999 is a weird, janky tank control nightmare and I LOVE it. When I’ve spoken to people about the Phantom Menace tie-in game, all I’ve ever heard was positivity. We just don’t see Star Wars stuff like this any more. There are no tie-in gam...
THE DARK JUDGES • Decoding Judge Dredd's Most Sinister Villains
Переглядів 1,8 тис.3 місяці тому
When the British anthology comic book 2000 AD debuted in 1977, one growing concern for the UK’s poor and marginalised was the increasing militarisation of the police. As the 1970s closed out, the Judge Dredd comic strip started to take direct influence from the news of the time. Telling stories of police brutality, as conservative voices in Britain called for a further “crackdown on crime”. In ...
Starfleet Academy Omnipedia CD-ROM • The PC game packaged with Star Trek toys

The Star Trek Omnipedia was a retail big box CD-ROM encyclopaedia. Exactly the kind of thing we saw a lot of during the CD-ROM era. The mini Omnipedia was released with the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy line of action figures. This is a cut down taster to give you a preview of the full retail encylopedia. So, let's take a look at another PC game which came bundled with an action figure! The Star...
The Story of The Rogue Squadron Books
Переглядів 7556 місяців тому
The name Rogue Squadron goes way back to the earliest Star Wars Legends books in the EU. Bantam published the first X-Wing book in 1998, written by Michael Stackpole. The series would later be picked up by Aaron Allston. Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film was going to be an original story, but apparently would have referenced several things from the old EU novels. So I’ve taken a look back at m...
The Politics of The Rogue Squadron Comics
Переглядів 6876 місяців тому
A retrospective of the Rogue Squadron Star Wars Legends Dark Horse comics. Would Patty Jenkins' Rogue Squadron movie have been inspired by the Star Wars EU Dark Horse comics from the 1990s? Jenkins said her film would have referenced the old X-Wing games and comics. The Rogue Squadron movie was officially cancelled by Disney, so we'll never know. I turned back to my old Dark Horse comics to get...
THE DEATH OF CASTLEVANIA | Lament of Innocence, Curse of Darkness and The Last Castlevania Games.

The FINAL games in the Castlevania franchise. For a short time, Castlevania was Konami’s golden goose. Between 1986’s Castlevania for the NES and 1991’s Super Castlevania IV on the Super Nintendo, the Castlevania franchise couldn’t be stopped. Even the Game Boy games tore up trees, topping two million sales. In the early 2000s, Castlevania was reinvented as a slick, 60fps 3D action game, specif...
ECSTATICA | A truly unique survival horror PC game from 1994
Переглядів 3,5 тис.8 місяців тому
Ecstatica released for the DOS PC in 1994, after ten years of development. An early survival horror game with a pagan folk horror story and a unique 3D graphics engine. With animation far smoother than anything on the market, it's a mystery to me why Ecstatica wasn't a massive success. For a game released wo years after Alone in the Dark, and two years before Resident evil, Ecstatica isn’t reme...

The all time best Spawn action figures that aren't Kickstarter Spawn! I'm ranking Spawn toys against their toyetic qualities: The sculpt, paint, articulation, poseability. The overall toyish vibes. That means that the more statue-like figures won’t be appearing. And I’m not listing toys that are hard to get or outrageously expensive. 00:00 Intro 00:35 Spawn Figures 15-10 04:11 Top 10 Spawn Figu...
The Mars Attacks video game you never knew about 💾
Переглядів 3 тис.9 місяців тому
The Mars Attacks action figures were released in 1996 by Trendmasters. One of the ways Trendmasters got their toys to stand out was to bundle floppy disks with their figures, which had little PC games on them. I’m sure some of you watching will remember these Mars Attacks figures and these Mission Disks will spark some nostalgia in you. And I love that. I don’t have any nostalgia for these. The...

Medieval Spawn II R3 as my personal favorite Spawn figure of all time.
This game was a huge chapter of my childhood. Glad I found your channel. With peak vocal performance, like yours, I expected you to have hundreds of thousands of subs. Very cool content. Absolutely love the dose of nostalgia and weird old retro stuff. Definitely want more.
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much for the kind words, "peak vocal performance" is the best thing anyone has ever said! I'm glad you found the channel, and I hope to bring you more doses of weird nostalgic stuff in future :D
I still remember how cool it was to see and play this in the late 80s at a local arcade! It cost nearly $1US to play at the time, but was an experience unlike any other. Galloping Ghost Arcade has one these days, but the hydraulics don’t work on it, and they decided it wasn’t worth fixing, so while it can be played, it remains stationary.
Would LOVE a breakdown of my favorite Dredd Arc “The Day The Law Died” I feel that’s the absolute best!
That's a little earlier than this. But I have also had a request for the Cursed Earth. I've got my plans for the next couple of Dredd videos though, so check back real soon!
I'm stuck @8:36. Where do you get or point to the file listed there? D:\Emulation\Emulators\PC-EM v17\pcem-hdd\win95-hdd.img
That's the virtual hard drive we set up at 08:08!
I love this toy line. I found the big one here in Argentina and it still works.
Hell yeah!
WHY CAN'T THEY ATLEAST MAKE A REMAKE OF THE FIRST 2 GAMES OR A REMAKE OF TOR BUT WITH AAA GRAPHICS AND GAMEPLAY, CUZ IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT, MEANWHILE THE STORY IS ALMOST PEAK
It doesn't exactly look like shit lmao
wasnt
Terrific contribution!
You might want to mention about jumpers on the HD. A lot of people will build to see there HD isnt being read. If there on an mobo it wont detect it unless the correct jumper is in place, its on the back. Its got little pins. if its set to 3 or 6 gps an old motherboard wont see it. you have to set the pin to 1.5
I could never forget the name of this game. My brother and I were obsessed with it as a kid, even used to take the game disc and throw it into our CD player to listen to the soundtrack. They dont make em like they used to. This game is pure nostalgia goodness, and that soundtrack still slaps. Also want to thank you for the amount of effort you put into this video. 5 years later and only 21k views? Thats a travisty, this was very well made and narrated.
Thank you so much. I put a fair amount of work into this one, but I suppose it's a pretty niche subject and not many people are looking for it? When people do, like yourself, they're always super nice. And frankly, I'm happy and grateful for it to be that way :)
Crazy that this game was not received well. I think it holds up great.
It's so much fun! I love that this video is still finding an audience this long after I made it.
Glad to see this classic gem get the treatment it deserves online
DOSBox PURE through Retroarch is my favorite way of playing old pc games. You can actually install windows 9x on there, install proper drivers and have everything work way faster than PCem and with CRT shaders right out of the box for a very complete retro experience with very little hazzle.
I hope this game gets added to Playstation store
I would love that!
I was 9 or 10 years when i first played this game. It absolutely terrified me but i kept coming back for more. It’s a gem in the rough for sure.
Just wanted to say this was a quality review. Found this channel now and I see you don't really do video game reviews anymore, disappointing but just saying this review was more entertaining and easy to listen to than 95 percent of youtubers. Maybe because you weren't trying to cater to 14 year olds.
Oh I still do games!
Star Wars didn't invent merchandising, KISS did...
Haha fair enough
i got the problem that the dolphin that is in the mouse program folder doesnt find my timesplitters 2 rom, the one in the original one still finds it but i kept downloading different roms for ts2 and non will be found by the dolphin in the folder
Anyone else remember playing SSX Tricky and finally unlocking "Trickyyyyyy Tricky Tricky" for the first time at 7:30pm after dinner when everything got quiet on your CRT TV in your room or in the loungeroom without other things like smartphones and social media to distract you? Ah those were honestly the days, UA-cam wasn't even a huge thing back then it was just starting.
I absolutely love this movie, it is amazing. The one actor who I think could have done Thade as well as Tim Roth would be Gary Oldman. But Tim was perfection. I really wish Fox had the balls to follow up with a sequel to pay off that ending.
Oldman would have killed in that! They could have brought him in for the sequel!
This game was my childhood! <3
YES, YOU DID IT!! 💜
Courtship is a great book. It was one of the first books that I read after Shadows of the Empire and the Thrawn trilogy. I also loved the Mandalorian armor, and it's two sequels🎉 I found Truce at Bakura tough to get into. Maybe I'll give it another go now that I'm twenty years older. Great video.
I'm currently re-reading all of them. Truce was still hard. It's really bizarre, in a good way, but still jarring. The Bounty Hunter Wars books still rip. I didn't find them as engaging a second time around, but more Boba Fett is never a bad thing 🥰
This and Pod Racer. Pure nostalgia and still love both of them. Still have both PC boxes in great condition.
Same!
Is Jurassic Park included?
I know this!
I want this game on NSO so bad.
I honestly feel like CV64 is what Castlevania should ALWAYS have been, with how it leans more into gothic horror and atmosphere. That's something platformers just...intrinsically lack. It remains my favorite Castlevania game of all time.
I'm inclined to agree. The PS2 follow-ups feel like they follow the template laid down by this game. But the handheld games followed SotN. And I prefer the former to the latter!
This is probably my favorite of the so-called “Myst clone” games. I remember enjoying this more than Myst itself, if I’m being honest. My first exposure to Shivers was through Sierra’s InterAction magazine around the time it came out. My computer at the time didn’t have a CD-ROM drive, so I didn’t think about it too much. In late 1998, after I got a new computer, I found Shivers for sale at the store marked down to a discount price. I bought it because I remember it looking kind of cool. I felt late to the party because it was already 3 years old at the time, but I really enjoyed it nonetheless. It had a fun & spooky atmosphere that drew me in. I think the last time I played this was over 15 years ago, but seeing it again gives me a lot of nostalgia.
I'd like to know how you feel about it today!
@@MattyStoked I still think it was a fun game. A bit of a 90’s time capsule and a product of its time. I never struggled too much with movement in the game, but watching other people play, I realize the movement hot spots weren’t implemented very intuitively. I never felt that backtracking was too much of a chore, because I figured out where all of the secret passageways were and I would also strategically drop pots in certain locations to minimize backtracking later.
Ive spent years thinking this game I played was a fever dream lol, thank you lol I guess I was lucky I only had disk 10 remember it being quite fun at the time after the movie released.
Hey and now you can download it and play it yourself! Thanks for the comment, mate :D
I haven’t watched this movie since I was a kid, but you’ve convinced me to give it another go.
I really hope it lands well!
you got a sub bro😀
Solid review! Now go beat it on crazy mode.
lmao no way! Joachim mode, definitely!
I remember after I gained sentience, this was the game that my brother, Dad and I would all gather around the tv to play. Looking at it now is nostalgic, yet I can’t even say I view this game through rose colored glasses. It was simply good.
I absolutely loved everything about that game, I think that the open world idea could’ve been awesome, and if they pull it off correctly, maybe working with Darth Vader, it’s still crazy that Disney is focused on movies that suck time and time again, the only way we can make a change is stop paying, eventually they’ll learn, hopefully we can convince them with our dollars to make a force unleashed 3
8:22 dynamic vhd disks do not
This game is and still is amazing to this day
😮💨 the sticker is fire though
Thank you, I'm glad you think so too!
hope this helps your channel grow
We'll see! It's all a bit of fun, really. It would be fun to send out some stickers.
Hi All, I have a joystick from my childhood, about 30 years now :) I have a converter, but windows 10 doesn't recognize it. At which point should be the problem? The converter is noname (MCAB), and the joystick also, but at device level, I should see something, if I'm not wrong. Thank you!
I’d like to see this series continue
The series of games or the series of me making videos about them? :)
Banger vid, Matty! I'm excited to see you talking about movies now too. A very merry Monkey June-hem to all!
Happy holidays! Thank you mate. This one was quite close to getting abandoned but I'm glad I finished it and got it out there. More questionable takes on mid movies, coming soon!
*''None of the other TF games recreate the toyetic sensantion of playing with a Transforming robot, and by delving into what's makes transforiming robots so cool, i think this game stands the lain as the best transformers game ever made''* It's like Fall and War Of Cybetron doesn't exist in your head. Not saying that the game's bad, or that you are not allowed to like it, as it quite like it as well, but saying that it's the best TF game when FOC and WOF exists is objectivly wrong by all acounts.
Having an opinion isn't silly. I like FoC and WfC a lot. I streamed FoC a little while ago and I've got videos on this channel about those games. They play so much more like 2010s-era third person shooters, which is exactly what they are. I think they don't capture the same sensation of playing with toys that the PS2 game did. This is exactly what this video is about, I didn't do a good enough job if you think there's ambiguiity there.
@@MattyStokedSo? What does being a third person shooter from that era have to do with anything? The same logic can be aplied to thie PS2 game as well lol and besdies, they still capture that sensation to a better extend i'll might add, espacially in MP where you can even create your own TF using infividual parts from the already established characters. But hey, glad you can at least recognize their greatness and i can't stop you from having a opinion even if that opinion is objetivly wrong. You probably should have phased it better at least because it didn't really came up right.
@@Bombastic_daioh I was being friendly about my delivery. It's in the thumbnail and it's not my fault if you can't watch a video and understand what it's about. Have a great Sunday.
@@MattyStoked Insulting me for your own fault doesn't make your point any more valid, but i guess taking the easy way out a conversation is the best and most productive way to prove a point. Oh well, likewise i guess lol
I went into this thinking I had never watched a Planet of the Apes movie, but I now realize I saw about 20 minutes of this one on TV probably in 2008 or so. Thought it was really neat how you detailed the way the actors trained to walk more like animals. And greatly appreciated the puns. It’s definitely understandable to me why it never got a sequel given the movies you listed that also came out in 2001. Fellowship just decimates every other movie there (for me). I like Spirited Away and Shrek a ton though. What I really wish is that we got that Tim Burton Superman movie with the long-haired Nic Cage Superman. Excellent video!
I would loved to have seen that Superman Lives film get made. It is a shame this film got bodied so hard by the competition, because it was really successful and Fox could have made a pretty coco-bananas sequel to it.
It’s finally out! Hope all the issues were resolved with the ™️ stuff!
The video was unblocked by YT which is nice, but it's still claimed by Fox. My request for Fair Use recognition is still pending. Keep your filthy paws crossed!
Thank you for this awesome video! I never watched this particular movie but I sure will after listening to your retrospective!
You should!
I can always count on you to drop a total banger on an unexpected topic. Also, the “ripens my banana” line in a Planet of the Apes video? Pure cinema.
🍌🍌🍌
This was just the video I wanted right now! You read my mind.
Loved this, Matty! Totally with you about this movies set design and Paul Giamatti’s performance.
This is one of those movies that I watch and enjoy, and then forget how much I enjoy because of all the negativity it gets
A ridiculous amount of negativity is leveled at this film. And I say an unfair amount!
@@MattyStokedyeh funfsct did you kn Oliver stone was guing to do a planet kf spes moviein the 1990s with Arnold Schwarzenegger
I'm gonna watch it for the first time after watching this.
Awesome! Please report back with what you thought!
When the video about the movie is WAY better than the actual movie 🤌
